Does drinking water help weight loss? Yes it does! And does it really get any easier than this!
Drinking plenty of water definitely needs to be part of your healthy weight loss plan.
Most people are walking around in varying degrees of dehydration. Check out my earlier blog about the importance of water to understand why.
A lot of people think they only need a drink when they are thirsty, and consequently they only have a drink then. This is wrong, and gets more wrong the older you get. The fact is, by the time you feel thirsty you are likely to be significantly dehydrated. The other fact is, early thirst can be perceived by your body as early hunger.
When you misinterpret this signal from your body it’s easy to see what can happen:
- You eat instead of giving your body what it wants – water
- When your body gets food when it didn’t need it, it is going to store it as fat
So, unrecognised dehydration might be maintaining your weight problem by driving you to eat too much.
Unfortunately a lot of people make this situation even worse by regularly drinking things that dehydrate their bodies even more, e.g. tea, coffee, caffeine containing fizzy drinks and alcohol.
Even if you are not trying to lose weight, drinking adequate water is going to benefit you. A consistently well hydrated body feels great and has more energy.
To get more hydrated:
- Aim for 8 glasses of water/day
- Reduce caffeine
- When you choose to drink caffeine and alcohol increase your water intake to compensate
Your weight loss solution can be a lot easier than you think. All you need is the correct information, an understanding about nutrition, and an expert guiding you along until you get the hang of it.

Hello Julie,
You are right! It is so essential to take plenty of water to hydrate our body well. If considering to lose weight naturally – drinking water is the best appetite suppressant!
I agree with you! The first time when you feel like getting hungry – drink water first you might just be thirsty instead of rushing to eat when in fact water is need and not food…
