How To Change & Lose Your Weight

To lose your weight you have to change.

I’m not so much talking about what you eat, how much you eat, and what exercise you do when I say that. What I’m referring to is – you have to change. Because it’s only when you change that all that stuff on the outside will change and you will lose your weight.

At the moment your health and weight are on a certain trajectory, and that’s being driven by who you are on the inside when it comes to health and weight. It you’re not happy with what you’ve got – you have to chance if you want better for yourself.

There are three things you can do to change:

  • Be willing to let go of the ‘old you’ when it comes to your health and weight
  • Forgive yourself over your past mistakes, stop beating yourself up about them, and accept you are where you are
  • To do both of the above – you need to have control over your mind

Lose Your Weight

You are so much more than your conscious mind. Your conscious mind is the part of your mind that you think with.

If you’re like the vast majority of people you’ve let your conscious mind run riot for years because you’ve exerted little control over it. Like nearly everyone else you’ve probably developed a habit of letting your mind run the show.

This is just a habit, and like any habit it can be changed.

You have incredible power within your subconscious mind, it is constantly responding to your thoughts and words.

The thoughts you choose to think influence the experiences you have.

If you’re in the habit of telling yourself that your weight is hard to lose – well for you it will be and you’ll continue to struggle to lose your weight.

However, when you make the shift to thinking something else like “it’s becoming easier to get healthier with each step I take”, things start to change.

You have gain greater control over your mind when you want to make some big leaps in life, like lose your weight which you may have been carrying around for years.

Your old thoughts you’ve had about your weight have got you to where you are now. Your old thoughts are gone, there’s nothing you can do about them except live with the consequences. But your current thoughts are totally under your control, if you decide to take charge.

Your thoughts from now on will shape your weight in the future.

You could compare this with a kid who has been used to going to bed really late, so they’re now in the habit of it.

As the adult you decide all of a sudden that they should be in bed by 8pm. The first night you try and get them to bed at 8pm – all hell breaks loose. However, you know if you give an inch the same problem with happen tomorrow, and the next day and the next. In the end nothing will change.

By sticking to your guns the kid goes to bed at 8pm, and the next night may be tough but a little easier. And gradually as the days go on it gets easier and easier with less fuss. At some point a new habit is established and bed time is at 8pm.

It’s the same kind of thing with your thoughts.

You can stop thinking old thoughts like:

  • I hate my body
  • I’m fat
  • I’ll never lose my weight

But it will take practice at first, like getting a ‘naughty’ child to ‘be good’.

Every time one of those destructive thoughts pop in your head you’ve got the choice to go with that, or think something different. For example, “I’m fat and I hate looking at myself” turns into something like “I am where I am today, but I am doing different things now because I am changing”.

This might seem very subtle, and perhaps it is. But when you get in the habit of changing destructive thoughts the moment they crop up – momentum starts to gather and the things you do begin to change. You’ll find yourself on a new path..

Regular challenge to your way of thinking about your weight is one of the biggies when if you want to lose your weight.
