I was recently interviewed on Radio MD where I was asked about why I think people struggle to lose weight (there’s a link at the bottom where you can listen to it). One of the key problems is most people don’t know how to set weight loss goals.
Without developing the mind-set needed to lose weight the actions you take (like dieting and exercise), tend to fall down pretty quickly. Just like a house would with shoddy foundations. You’ve got to have a solid foundation first!
When you make changes in your mind about your health and weight, your body naturally and easily follows.
How to Set Weight Loss Goals
In order to succeed with your weight loss you have to be clear about where you’re headed. You have to know how to set weight loss goals for yourself.
A lot of people talk about their weight issues like this “I don’t want to be fat anymore, I don’t want to be so heavy and unhealthy, I’m fed up of having to buy large sizes in clothes, and I’m sick of my knees hurting.”
That’s a bit miserable and not exactly going to get you inspired for action!
Whereas if you take a minute and actually think about what you do want (rather than the above which is what you don’t want), you begin to shift your mind in a new direction.
A minority of people talk about their weight issues like this “I’m going to look fabulous in my bikini on the beach!”
Something like this you can feel happy about, and if you want to inspire yourself to make the journey to better health and a slim body you need to feel happy about where you’re going – otherwise why would you bother?
In the interview I also talk briefly about how to take things forward from this point, to make it all seem doable – which will inspire you into effective action. You can listen to it by clicking on the link below:
